Project Overview
This was a highly complex project creating a website for the Laboratory for Genomics Research (LGR)—a one-of-a-kind environment for collaboration between researchers at University of California San Francisco (UCSF), University of California Berkeley (UCB), and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) committed to developing and deploying next generation CRISPR technologies. In this crossover of academia and industry, my task was to carefully construct a site that represents all involved internal parties while balancing the external image of the collaboration.
My Contributions
  • Organized meetings with multiple stakeholders, representing each partner of the collaboration, early on, to determine how to best present this organization.
  • Held weekly or bi-weekly status calls with the team, as well as sent email recaps, to ensure all parties involved were looped throughout the process
  • Collected a clear statement on vision, mission, and goals, and begun architecting the site based on the information and priorities of the stakeholders
  • Conducted several revisions of the high-fidelity website and worked with in-house copy editors to well present the story of this organization
  • Created a unique glass brand identity for the website and found creative ways to employ that throughout the website
  • Went through multiple rounds of approvals from the three different partners and built out a phase 1 of the site on Webflow based on what was okay to proceed on
  • After the initial launch, I worked with the team on designing a phase 2 of the site and worked on getting approvals accordingly
  • Gathered research from internal interviews conducted with the team on culture, the website, and more
  • Applied the feedback received and worked with the copy-writers to better illustrate the culture of the team and expand the website accordingly
  • Re-built the website on Webflow—updating the design, as well as creating a number of new approved pages—and relaunched
  • Created a style guide to capture the work and assist future designers and website builders
  • Assisted with minor website updates and maintenance after project launch
Testimonial
April O.
Administrative Manager
Asha has a significant history with the Laboratory for Genomics Research (LGR) where she played a pivotal role in creating its first ever online presence. Hired for her design skills, business acumen, and professionalism, she was critical in spearheading the facilitation, design, and construction of the LGR website from scratch, guiding and documenting every step of the process through workshops, meetings, wireframes, and prototypes. During these formative years, she built the site balancing expectations from all three major collaborators: UCSF, UCB, and GSK.

Since I joined the LGR, Asha has been instrumental in maintaining the website and preserving institutional memory around the lab's early days and past decisions. Not only does she handle routine maintenance tasks with efficiency, she also mentors fellow team members on how to use Webflow for smaller updates. Asha's exceptional communication skills, friendly nature, and commitment to excellence ensure that tasks are completed to the highest standard. We deeply value her partnership and would hire her again without hesitation!
